Day 3.  Lightning Ridge             (BLD)

Today we explore this unique town, it is one of the few remaining places where man can live and work in a near natural state.  Places of interest today include the Castle, the Walk in Mine, the Bottle House Museum and the Cactus Farm plus The  Chamber of the Black Hand, which is 11.2 metres underground, in a 100 year old mine, where subterranean tunnels open into vast chambers. Walls are decorated with the hand carvings of  artist Ron Canlin, the owner of this uniquely Australian attraction.  Time this afternoon to browse the shops. Keep your eyes down today, you never know what you will find.

Day 4. Lightning Ridge - Cobar       (BLD)

Departing the Ridge this morning, we first travel to Brewarrina before continuing into Bourke, a fascinating township and the  service centre for a vast area of sheep country. We take a brief tour of Bourke before continuing to Cobar for overnight.  Copper City Motel

Day 5.   Cobar - White Cliffs      (BLD)

Day 7.  White Cliffs—Tibooburra    (BLD)

Farewell to White Cliffs, we travel across country through beautiful desert country to join the Silver City Highway.

Visit Milparinka, once a thriving gold mining town, but today a ghost of its former self, but as a heritage township it has much to offer. A devoted local  community group has restored four of the most significant buildings, the  courthouse, police station, gaol cells, and former kitchen and turned them into a vibrant, awarding winning Heritage Precinct, and one of the original hotels, The Albert, still operates. There have been renovations, however the Hotel is still essentially as it was in 1880. This will be our lunch stop today.

Continuing along the Silver City Highway into Tibooburra. Tibooburra is an Aboriginal word meaning “Heaps of Rocks”. It is the gateway to the corner country and we arrive in time to visit some of the towns unique attractions.  Two (2) nights at The Granites.

Day 8.  Cameron Corner           (BLD)

Today we travel from Tibooburra through 450 million year old granite tors and flat topped mesas to rolling red dune fields of the Simpson-Strzelecki Desert.  Crossing the Sturt National Park and the Waka Claypan to Fort Grey and onto Cameron Corner and the worlds longest fence; the 5,000+ km Dog Fence which was constructed to keep roaming dingos of the north and west out of the pastoral lands of NSW. Stand at the Cameron Corner Survey Marker and stand in 3 states at once (NSW, QLD & SA).  Take time to visit the iconic Cameron Corner store. Returning to Tibooburra through the spectacular desert country.

Day 9.  Tibooburra—Broken Hill      (BD)

Travel the Silver City Highway this morning backtracking to Milparinka then on to Packsaddle , passing large salt lakes along the way. Visit the small  settlement of Silverton before arriving in Broken Hill. Visit the lookout before checking into our accommodation for overnight at Comfort Inn Crystal.

Day 10.  Broken Hill—Nyngan               (BD)
